Professor Carl Gombrich
university dean, programme director

Carl Gombrich is an education entrepreneur and university dean. He is the founding dean of the London Interdisciplinary School, the first higher-education institution in the UK for 50 years to get its degree-awarding powers at its inception. He previously led the team at UCL who founded the first Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc) in the UK.

His particularly interest is in interdisciplinary education and how universities can provide broader, more connected education relevant to the intellectual lives and careers of today’s graduates. Associated interests are the future of work and liberal arts education. He has written and spoken widely on these topics in the UK and overseas. In a former life, he was an opera singer and is now a keen age-group triathlete. Next stop, most likely: AI and education.
