Matthew Torbitt
political commentator and writer; senior fellow, The Centre for Social Justice

Matthew Torbitt is a political commentator, writer and former Labour adviser who spent 7 years working with five front bench MPs in Parliament. Drawing on his own lived experience of homelessness, Matthew now campaigns on housing and social justice issues. He has written for The Big Issue, LabourList and the Spectator, and is a regular contributor on GB News, BBC Newsnight, Times Radio and Jeremy Vine on 5. He is finishing a book on his own experiences of homelessness and rough sleeping.

Matthew is a native of Stockport and was homeless at the age of 17. Sleeping rough for almost a year, he was groomed into a gang and narrowly avoided prison. After receiving a suspended sentence and finding a home, he went to university and turned his life around. He would go on to work in Parliament and help organise political campaigns and champion positive social change. He is currently a senior fellow at The Centre for Social Justice.
