Bev Jackson
co-founder and trustee, LGB Alliance and LGB International

Bev Jackson worked as a teacher and university lecturer in English literature before settling into a career translating scholarly books and articles. She was a founding member of the UK Gay Liberation Front in 1970 and has supported progressive causes from anti-Apartheid to women’s reproductive rights. In 2016, she published the book, A Month with Starfish, about her work volunteering with refugees on the Greek island of Lesvos.

Bev then became alarmed by the regressive turn taken by the gay rights movement she had helped to found. In 2019, she met Kate Harris, who shared her concerns. Stonewall flatly refused to engage: the slogan was “No debate!” Bev and Kate therefore founded LGB Alliance, since 2021 a registered charity, to revive the LGB rights movement. Bev is excited to see the launch of LGB International, which will spread these ideas and support LGB people worldwide. Bev Jackson lives near Amsterdam with her wife Heleen and dog Billy – children and grandchildren all within cycling distance.
