Dr Roslyn Fuller
managing director, Solonian Democracy Institute; author, In Defence of Democracy

Dr. Roslyn Fuller is an expert on electoral systems, historical democracy and digital democracy. A former lecturer, she is the author of five books, including the Orwell Prize-nominated Beasts and Gods: How Democracy Changed Its Meaning and Lost Its Purpose (Zed Books, 2015), Next Generation Indie Book Awards Finalist In Defence of Democracy (Polity, 2019), and her latest academic textbook, Principles of Digital Democracy (deGruyter, 2023). Roslyn frequently contributes to print, radio and broadcast media – including the BBC, Forbes, The Nation, The Irish Times, spiked and UnHerd – on issues relating to democracy as well as to international law.
As managing director of the Solonian Democracy Institute, based in Dublin, she tracks the emergence of digital democracy software as part of the Institute’s bi-annual Digital Democracy Report.
An acerbic and irreverent speaker, as well as a staunch critic of citizens’ assemblies as a deeply undemocratic form of ‘governance’, Roslyn regularly speaks at universities and events across Europe and North America on the urgent need to defend democracy against efforts to weaken the universal franchise and to overturn the principle of one-person, one-vote.
