Peymana Assad
Obama Leader of Europe; councillor, London Borough of Harrow; first person of Afghan origin elected to UK public office; founder, Labour Foreign Policy Group

Councillor Peymana Assad is an Obama Leader of Europe, a founder of the Labour Foreign Policy Group and a former parliamentary candidate. She represents Roxeth, South Harrow on the London Borough of Harrow Council.

She previously served as the Borough’s Cabinet Member for Community Cohesion, Crime and Enforcement and now serves as the Borough’s Shadow Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Environment. Peymana came to the UK as a child refugee herself and upon her election in 2018 became the first person of Afghan origin elected to public office in the UK. She has worked across Westminster and Local Government as a political adviser as well as in the charity sector on gender, peace and security in the Global South, whilst sitting on boards for British charities working across Afghanistan. Peymana appears regularly on international and national media outlets.
