Dr Sean Lang

Sean Lang is a historian, educationist and playwright, who speaks frequently about history and current affairs on radio and television. He was senior lecturer in History at Anglia Ruskin University for 17 years, teaching modern British, European and imperial history. He also lectures regularly for the University of Cambridge International Summer School. He has taught in secondary schools and sixth-form colleges and was for four years an education lecturer training history teachers at Exeter University.

He is chair of governors at a large primary-school federation. He has played a prominent role in the development of school history-teaching policy, both as honorary secretary of the Historical Association and later as head of the Better History Group.

He has published on British India and the First World War and contributed to The Cambridge Companion to Winston Churchill.  He has also written works of popular history, including British History for Dummies and First World War for Dummies. He is currently working on a collection of essays, titled What History Do We Need?

He is an award-winning playwright and recently set up a theatre company, BOATS Theatre (Based On A True Story) using theatre to explore our relationship with the past.
