Susie Hawkes
senior lecturer in social work, University of Wolverhampton

Susie qualified as a social worker in 1999 and is registered with Social Work England. She worked within children and families practice until May 2020, when she moved into full-time academia, having worked part-time from 2017. Susie’s primary experience is working in child protection and safeguarding, with smaller periods of work in youth justice, fostering and as independent parenting assessor for the family courts.
Susie is currently undertaking doctoral studies researching what factors influence how social workers make assessments of risk when assessing children where there are concerns around domestic violence. Susie’s interests are around the assessment of risk in children’s social work, assessment and the relationship between the state and the family.
