Nick Busvine OBE

Nick is an advisory board member of Briefings for Britain and has written regularly for the site, usually on issues related to Brexit and the Civil Service.
Nick graduated from Cambridge (MA economics and law) in 1982. He then joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, serving as a diplomat in Malaysia, Syria, Mozambique, Colombia and Iraq as well as in London. Key work themes during his time in the FCO included: conflict resolution (awarded his OBE for his work on the Mozambican peace process in the early 1990s); counter-terrorism; and action against serious crime. Nick’s final posting was in Baghdad during the height of the war in Iraq (2006-07).
After taking early retirement from the FCO in 2011, Nick went into the private sector – and is now a founding partner of the London-based advisory firm Herminius. Nick was a town councillor in Sevenoaks 2012 – 2023, serving as Mayor of Sevenoaks 2019-2021.
Nick is a keen private pilot. He is a volunteer gliding instructor at Southdown Gliding Club in Parham, West Sussex. He is married, with three daughters.
