Mark Seddon

Mark Seddon is a former speech writer for the United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, and a senior information officer for the president of the UN General Assembly, Maria Fernanda Espinosa. He was the director of communication, education commission, chaired by Gordon Brown, and a UN Special Envoy for global education.

Mark was the first UN correspondent for Al Jazeera English TV, and New York bureau chief. He was the editor of Tribune for 13 years, and an elected member of the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee. Mark is a visiting professor at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University, New York, and is currently director of the Centre for UN Studies at the University of Buckingham.

Mark is author of Standing for Something: life in the awkward squad and co-author of Jeremy Corbyn and the Strange Rebirth of Labour England. His forthcoming book, Great British Elms: the remarkable story of an iconic tree and its return from the brink, will be published by Kew Publishing in Autumn 2024.
