Jack Hues
musician; member, Wang Chung; creator, Primitif

Jack studied music at Goldsmiths College and at the Royal College of Music between 1973-77, specialising in composition and electronic music. He returned to his rock music roots and formed the band Wang Chung with Nick Feldman in 1980, signing to Arista Records in London and then Geffen Records in Los Angeles in 1982.

The band had several Top 40 hits in the USA and around the world, and composed the film score to William Friedkin’s To Live and Die in LA. Jack worked with various artists in the 90’s including Tony Banks of Genesis, with whom he made an album. In the 2000s, Jack turned to jazz and released two critically acclaimed albums with Jack Hues and The Quartet, performing in Canterbury and around the UK. Collaborations with poets, Kelvin Corcoran, Simon Smith and David Herd followed. Collaborative work with Canterbury Rock Band Sydarthur further extended the range of Jack and his Quartet.

In 2019, Jack received an award from Prog Magazine for his experimental work in the jazz/rock field. It also saw the release of Orchesography, the seventh studio album by Wang Chung featuring new versions of several of their hits arranged for the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2020, he released his first solo record, Primitif, a double album that again received critical acclaim. This was followed by a second solo album in 2021 and a live jazz double album in 2022. He has just completed a tour of the USA with Wang Chung performing to sell-out crowds at venues including the Greek Theatre in LA.
