Fiona McAnena
director of sport, Fair Play For Women

Born and bred in Northern Ireland, Fiona read Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and has a rowing blue.
Fiona McAnena has worked with Fair Play For Women for five years and leads their sport campaign. She’s met with dozens of UK and international sports federations and pushed them to centre women in their female category.
Fair Play For Women were the first to raise the alarm about males in women’s prisons in mainstream media, in 2017. The following year they were a leading voice in the successful campaign to stop self-ID in the government’s proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act. They also stopped the UK government from allowing self-ID in the 2020 Census, winning a high court legal action.
