Emily Barley
Maternity safety campaigner

Emily’s daughter, Beatrice, died in May 2022 because of medical negligence. Beatrice was perfect and healthy – she died because of a series of basic failures in care, and wider institutional failure that has allowed unsafe care to become normal at Barnsley Hospital, where Beatrice died, and across the NHS.
Emily now works with other families bereaved by negligence to campaign for safe NHS maternity care and the changes needed to enable safety, including culture change, real accountability, and reform of how services are managed and delivered.
Before Beatrice died, Emily was a public affairs consultant, chairman of Conservatives for Liberty, and leader of the Rotherham Council Conservative Group. She stood for the Conservatives in Wentworth and Dearne in the 2019 General Election.
