David Swift
historian; author, The Identity Myth and A Left for Itself

David Swift is an author and historian whose work focuses on politics and contemporary history. In particular he is interested in the political and cultural manifestations of ‘identities’ such as class, gender and ethnicity. His latest book, The Identity Myth, concerns such themes, and is a ‘Next Big Idea Club’ nominee for 2022.

His first book, A Left for Itself, focused on the changing nature of political identities and how this has impacted on the Left in Britain and internationally. He has written for a range of traditional and digital media including the Independent, The Times, the New Statesman, Tribune magazine, UnHerd and many others.

In his spare time he is a keen TV gameshow enthusiast and once nearly won £60,000 on The Chase.
