Professor Aaqil Ahmed
director, Amplify Consulting Ltd; professor of media, University of Bolton; former head of religion, Channel 4 and BBC

Aaqil is the former head of religion and ethics at both Channel 4 and the BBC. At Channel 4, he was also the head of multicultural programming. He has been involved with television programmes that have won numerous awards from BAFTA, Emmy to Royal Television Society, as well as nominations including Grierson and Oscar. He commissioned the first documentaries on The Qur’an and The Life of Muhammad as well as many factual and current affairs programmes for broadcasters around the world.
Aaqil is professor of media at the University of Bolton and teaches at a number of universities in the UK. He is a non-executive director at the Advertising Standards Authority, Ofcom and the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales. He is a published writer, speaker and leader in media, diversity, religion, demographics and culture. His company, Amplify Consulting Ltd, specialises in television and digital media production, broadcaster and festival consultancy, religion and diversity strategy as well as delivering training in media and religious literacy in the UK and globally.
