Matthew Patten
political and communications director, Centre for Social Justice; former charity CEO; former member, European Parliament

For over 15 years, as a Charity CEO and then as a member of the European Parliament, Matthew Patten has convened and championed high impact campaigns in education, employment, disability, poverty, nutrition, sport, digital, and justice. He has been the chief executive of the cricket and disability sports charity The Lord’s Taverners and was the chief executive for the social mobility charity Mayor’s Fund for London from 2012 until 2018. In the European Parliament, he was a member of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee, the Delegation for Relations with Iran and the Delegation to the EU-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee.

Matthew believes the challenges of our post-Brexit, post-Covid world mean that it is more important than ever to innovate and champion radical social justice solutions at the heart of British politics. While some are asking about Britain’s role in the world, or our place in the global economy, Mathew believes the Centre for Social Justice is right to focus on what kind of society we want to live in.
