Ruby Ali
teacher, religious studies; co-host, TeachMeet Religious Studies Icons; speaker, Don’t Divide Us

Ruby is a full-time teacher of religious studies in a comprehensive school in Lichfield, Staffordshire. In 2019, Ruby graduated in philosophy, religion and ethics at the University of Birmingham followed by obtaining a postgraduate diploma in education.

Ruby is the co-host of TeachMeet Religious Studies Icons, a national network that provides subject specific events to advance teachers’ professional development in the UK. In recent events, Ruby interviewed and engaged in discussion with Irshad Manji, the author of Don’t Label Me and the authors of The Philosopher Queens, Rebecca Buxton and Lisa Whiting. With a keen interest in dialogues around diversity of viewpoints, Ruby recently joined as a speaker for Don’t Divide Us, an organisation that promotes cultural unity.

Previously, Ruby has worked in association with the Faith and Beliefs Forum, an interfaith organisation. This included the completion of the ParliaMentors Internship, a UN accredited leadership programme and becoming a speaker and volunteer for the organisation; this involved delivering workshops on reconciling ‘conflicting’ identities in secondary schools across the West Midlands.

Driven by her passion for philosophy and education, Ruby is committed to providing the space and opportunity to engage in life’s ultimate questions and today’s socio-political concerns freely and critically.
