Nigel Ruddock
chief financial officer, Technology Minerals PLC; accountant and insolvency specialist; trustee, former head and chairman of automotive services, Grant Thornton;

Nigel is an accountant and insolvency specialist spending over 30 years helping underperforming businesses to restructure and return to profitability.

From 2000 to 2010 Nigel was head of automotive services for Grant Thornton, during which time he led most of the major restructuring assignments of dealer groups in the UK. He was so enthusiastic about the sector, he even qualified as a MoT examiner. He was a regular visitor to Detroit during the global automotive crisis, and spent a lot of time in Cologne working on restructuring a number of critical suppliers.

Nigel was also chairman of Grant Thornton UK, which then employed roughly 4,000 people with a revenue of about £450million. From 2010 to 2015 he was a member of the International Leadership Board of Grant Thornton International where he was responsible for developing their global advisory business as well as helping develop the member firms in Asia Pacific and Middle East. He spent a lot of time in China!

During 2015-2016 Nigel was chairman of an accounting firm in Singapore which was going through a period of change.

Since retiring, Nigel has been a trustee of SERV, a charity dedicated to helping the NHS by delivering blood products, by motorcycle, out of hours. Nigel’s role as a trustee helped develop systems and improve governance and although he is no longer a trustee, he still regularly gets on his motorbike and delivers blood through the night.

Nigel also uses his experience to help other not for profit groups. He is also a member of the Advisory Council of a Community Centre and Art Therapy group which grew from the Grenfell tragedy, helping with their finances and fundraising.

Covid has done strange things to people and to avoid mowing the lawn one more time, Nigel recently went back to work as chief financial officer of Technology Minerals PLC which specialises in cobalt mining in areas of the world with high labour standards and governance. The group also has a major investment in developing technology to recycle lithium and lead batteries used in the automotive industry.
