Martin is chair of trustees at Leasehold Knowledge Partnership (LKP), which has been campaigning on leasehold issues for more than a decade. The charity helps advice leaseholders on wide range of issues and was asked to become the secretariat on the All Party Parliamentary Group on Leasehold and Commonhold Reform when the group formed in 2016. That group now includes nearly 200 members of parliament.

Over the years LKP has helped to expose many bad practices in the sector some of which are now subject to potential government reform. One its first early pieces of work in 2013 was to uncover the fact that government had always fundamentally misunderstood the size of this part of the housing market. Everyone assumed there were about 1.5million leasehold houses and flats – LKP showed it was 5.37million flats. This became officially recognised as 4.1million privately owned leasehold homes in 2014.
