Ruth is a senior lecturer in education studies at the University of Derby and an executive committee member of the British Education Studies Association (BESA).

Her recently published Civitas Report on The Racialisation of Campus Relations, re-examines the reporting of statistical data on attainment that has contributed unjustly to the perpetuation of the diminished education status of students. In the report she rejects the practice of grouping higher education students by their skin colour and ethnicity in current and future policies and practices.

Ruth is also the main author of World-Class Apprenticeship Standards: report and recommendations, a study commissioned by Pearson Education UK. She is also the author of a report on Employers’ Experience of Higher Apprenticeships: benefits and barriers.
