Alexander Jan

Alexander is the non-executive chair of the Central District Alliance, the business improvement district covering Holborn, Clerkenwell, Farringdon and Bloomsbury. He has recently been appointed chief economic adviser to the London Property Alliance (the Westminster Property Association and the City Property Association) to provide a unified voice for the leading owners, developers, investors and professional advisors of real estate across central London.

Until last year, Alex was Arup’s chief economist where he led work for 11 years. His areas of expertise included: advising investors looking to buy sell and finance transport assets, the impact of major transport schemes such as Crossrail on city economies and labour markets, and appraisal approaches such as HM Treasury’s Green Book, infrastructure plans and local government finance. He is a regular commentator on these issues and is currently researching and writing a book on the life of Lord Ashfield (1874-1948), the first chairman of London Transport. Alex is an obsessive but not very good squash player. He lives in central London.
