To some degree, the debate about whether Brexit will or should happen has obscured a much-needed discussion about what people want out of Brexit – and what the focus of politics should be in the period beyond Brexit.

The vote for Brexit and the political discussion in the period since the referendum has raised a myriad of questions. Is the priority to re-engage with the question of economic renewal? Should democratic, electoral or constitutional reforms rise to the top of the agenda? Or is this a time when cultural questions like immigration or multiculturalism should be at the forefront of our minds? Or something else altogether?

While some view Brexit as a springboard to transformation and changed priorities, others hope politics will return to ‘normal’. Has the vote to leave the European Union changed things irreversibly? What will be the focus of politics beyond Brexit?
