Denis Russell
building contractor; former trade-union activist and union representative, National Union of Railwaymen

Denis Russell is a building contractor who has worked on projects in London, Ireland and Europe for 20 years. Denis was a trade-union activist and union representative with the National Union of Railwaymen (latterly amalgamated with the National Union of Seamen to become the RMT) in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Before working in construction, Denis was a history teacher in further education. He is a regular at the Battle of Ideas festival and The Academy. Denis sings and plays guitar, and is particularly interested in folk and country music – from Irish trad to the blues of the southern states of America.
