Michael Goldfarb
journalist and historian, creator, FRDH Podcast; documentary maker, Evangelical or Political Christianity?; author, The Martyrdom of Ahmad Shawkat

Over the past 35 years, Michael Goldfarb has reported from more than 25 countries on five continents about conflicts, conflict resolution and culture for, among others: BBC, NPR, Guardian, Washington Post and Politico. He has written opinion pieces for the New York Times, Washington Post, Daily Telegraph, Guardian and Independent.

But he is best known for his reporting and essays about American life for BBC Radio since leaving the US in 1985 to live in London. From early 2016, he documented the Trump presidency for Radio 4 and the World Service in seven documentaries. He continues to document the Trump phenomenon most recently in Evangelical or Political Christianity? on BBC World Service.

He is currently publishing a series at Substack called, History of a Calamity, which tells the story of how America went from victory in the Second World War to Donald Trump in his lifetime.

His World Service series Homeward Bound won a Sony Award. His book on the Iraq war, Ahmad’s War, Ahmad’s Peace: surviving under Saddam, was named a New York Times Notable Book of 2005 and will be re-issued next year with the title, The Martyrdom of Ahmad Shawkat. He is also the author of Emancipation: how liberating Europe’s Jews from the ghetto led to revolution and renaissance.
