Moira Deeming MP
Independent Liberal member of the Victorian Legislative Council, Western Metropolitan Region, Victoria Parliament

Australian Independent Liberal MP Moira Deeming was elected as a member of the Legislative Council (Upper House) for the Western Metropolitan Region in Victoria’s parliament in November 2022. She served in local council politics prior to this as a Councillor for the City of Melton and a high-school teacher.

As a survivor of child abuse and rape, Moira has been advocating against the removal of child safeguarding principles and sex-based rights in laws, policies and curriculums for 15 years. More broadly, her passion for political engagement stems from her belief in liberal democratic values and a deep conviction that enshrining fair laws which balance freedoms and responsibilities and which wind back the trend toward totalitarian governance in the Western world will benefit everybody.

Six months into her first term as an MP, Moira was expelled from her parliamentary team following public accusations by the leadership team that her participation in and refusal to denounce the organisers of a ‘Let Women Speak’ rally with Kellie-Jay Keen, amounted to an immoral and inexcusable association with Nazism. To this day, Moira has steadfastly refused to denounce Kellie-Jay Keen and other organisers, as Nazis, Nazi sympathisers or Nazi associates and has been forced to sue her own party Leader for defamation.

Despite being expelled by the Liberal Parliamentary team, Moira remains a member of the broader Liberal Party and an MP in the Victorian parliament, where she continues her advocacy unabated.
