Tom Bewick
presenter, Skills World Live; chief executive, Federation of Awarding Bodies

Tom Bewick is passionate about the value of qualifications. He left school with just one ‘O’ level but thanks to night school achieved a world-class bachelor’s degree and a public policy masters from the University of Bath.

Tom has led various skills initiatives in his 25 year career. In the 1990s he advised ministers on post-16 education, including the creation of sector skills councils. He spent seven years as CEO of Creative and Cultural Skills where he introduced the first creative apprenticeships. From 2011, Tom worked as a skills expert in the international arena, leading major projects around the world.

In 2013, Tom was part of an advisory team to the U.S. government working on the expansion of apprenticeships. He was founder of the Transatlantic Apprenticeship Exchange Forum and co-founder of U.S. firm, Franklin Apprenticeships. Tom continues to be recognised for his publications and policy influence on both sides of the Atlantic.

Launched originally as a response to the coronavirus pandemic, the #SkillsWorldLive Radio Show, presented by Tom, builds on the popular podcast series, #SkillsWorld on FE News, where Tom interviewed some of the leading figures shaping the post-compulsory education and skills systems, including apprenticeships.
