Neil Davenport
sociology and politics teacher; writer on culture; former music journalist

Neil Davenport is a former music journalist whose writing has been published in Metro, Select, Q, Uncut and the Manchester Evening News. He is a frequent contributor to the current affairs journal spiked on issues such as welfarism, schooling and parenting, pubs and licensing laws, the UK riots, anti-materialist sceptics and the white working class.

In September 2007, he contributed a chapter called ‘The Rise and Rise of Credentialism’ to The Lecturers Guide to Further Education (Open University Press), and has contributed a chapter ‘Minorities, Multiculturalism and the Metropolitan Experience’ to The Future of Community (Pluto Press) in October 2008. He has taught in a number of further education colleges and sixth-form centres in London over the past 15 years.
